Forbes: Washington Fares Better Than Any City in the Country

by Tony Hain on March 11, 2010

Forbes just keeps naming DC to its Top 10 Lists.  We come in #1 for Cities Where the Recession is Ending.

“In recent weeks, business in Washington DC ground to a halt as record snowfalls pummeled the area and a sparring match over national health care reform hijacked the political conversation.  But the nation’s capital is getting something right:  it’s emerging from the recession better than any other major city in the country,” according to research by Forbes.

“Jobs in Washington are growing quickly, and in 2008 the city produced more in goods and services than almost anywhere in the country.  DC and nine other cities (among them:  Boston, Los Angeles and a host of metros in Texas) are best surviving the downturn, in part because they specialize in industries that are relatively insulated from economic volatility.”

Others in the top 10 list include:
2.         Austin TX
3.         Dallas TX
4.         Houston TX and Minneapolis MN (tie)
6.         Denver CO
7.         San Antonio TX
8.         Boston MA
9.         Los Angeles CA
10.       Kansas City MO/KS

Forbes notes that DC has a strong housing market which fared better than many other metros in 2009. READ FULL STORY
