After numerous stories on the doom and gloom of the national housing market, today the Washington Post put the local market into focus, noting that we have been largely insulated from the national trends. Citing a report by Delta Associates, the Post notes that inventory in parts of the metro area, particularly the urban core, is limited, the local jobs and economic picture is increasingly healthy, and housing prices are beginning to rise.
The article also notes that the expiration of the federal housing tax credit has less of an impact in Washington because many of our buyers were not eligible for the credit due to income restrictions.
